Winter Packing List

As someone who considers winter her second favorite season, I think I have a good grasp on winter fashion that is practical yet stylish. So whether you’re heading to an adorable winter town, hitting the slopes, or simply just visiting somewhere cold – you’re going to need a winter packing list.

I recently went on a weekend trip with my friends to the Catskills and really feel like I nailed the whole winter weekend getaway thing. Obviously there are a couple of things to consider: Will you have a car? Will you be flying? How long is the trip? What are the daily temperatures?


Winter Packing List

Packing for a winter destination can be tough, but I promise it doesn’t have to be! We know our winter items are going to be bulkier and take up a lot of space, BUT I’m here to help you get the most out of your suitcase. This winter packing list will not only keep you warm, but also stylish – what more can you ask for?!

I’ve actually been to a couple of winter destinations – Ice Castles in New Hampshire, Lake Louise (funny enough, also saw the Ice Castles there too)…and obviously New York City gets some pretty harsh winters. Most recently, I took a trip to the Catskills where the high was 20 degrees or below every day.

Winter packing list:

  • Coats & Jackets

  • Sweaters – preferably wool & cashmere!

  • Leggings

  • Layering Options – t-shirts!

  • Jeans

  • Cold weather accessories

  • Winter boots


Use Packing Cubes

If you’re getting on a plane, you’re going to want to utilize packing cubes. This will help with packing bulky sweaters, accessories (like cashmere scarves), and will allow you to maximize space in your suitcase.

I have not utilized this tip yet, but I’ve heard of people using compression bags to flatten your clothing as much as possible. I might look into them if I have another plane trip. I feel like I need to test the theory of if it weighs down your bag #50poundsorless, ya know?

Who Cares About Your Layers

This is something I definitely needed to work through on my own LOL. As someone who loves a good outfit, I really need to think about my layers when starting my winter packing list. I stress over every piece, making sure the look is exactly what I want it to be. But the truth? We’re wearing coats and chunky sweaters most of the time…so does it matter

Neutrals, Neutrals, Neutrals

Sticking with a neutral color palette will help make packing for your winter trip 100X easier. Luckily, I barely have any color in my wardrobe. But if you’re into color, stick with a couple of statement pieces (bonus points if they’re small accessories). But trust me, packing neutrals will allow you to mix and match outfits, and pack more efficiently

urrently Crushing: J.Crew Etienne Shirt

  I’ve been dying to write this post because I just LOVE this shirt so damn much. When it comes to an oversized shirt, this is the one you’re going to have to buy for your closet.
