What I Learned When I Tried Shooting For My Fashion Blog In Egypt

Image
The burgeoning  fashion and beauty industries in the Middle East  are becoming an international power, and with them,  massively successful Middle Eastern bloggers and photographers  have begun to enjoy many of the same perks as their Western counterparts. Just like ones based in New York, L.A., London, and Sydney, Middle East fashion blogs represent a spectrum of people, personal styles, and philosophies. From religious  fashion bloggers  who advocate for modest dressing to  fashion-forward bloggers  who champion standing out, personal style in the region is, as anywhere else, nuanced and varied. Yet, blogging in the Middle East comes with its own set of challenges. Attitudes throughout the region range from the laxer, like Dubai, where you can essentially wear whatever you want, to Saudi Arabia, where women are not permitted to drive or even leave the country without explicit written consent from a male spouse or guardian. But regardle...

. The subscription-box model has been applied to all sorts of items, like Birch box's makeup-packed parcels,  various meal delivery services, Kate Hudson-approved workout gear, and  even weed . But here's a variation we haven't yet seen: This week, the fashion site  Muslim Girl  is launching a monthly subscription box service that's tailored to Muslim women. Each monthly box will have a different theme, and will be packed with a scarf that can, if desired, be used as a hijab, plus various cosmetics and some wild-card items. "We've seen brands attempt to access the buying power of our unique demographic while doing nothing to emp...

11 Plus Size Women On Their Best Fashion Purchase Of 2019

Image
When fellow ask me the best way to find style inspiration or cute clothes, I always say social media. Following stylish plus size women on Instagram has been key to my own personal style journey and has led me to more unique pieces (and confidence) than anything else. I fill my feed with plus size bloggers and influencers, but also pretty much anyone who posts their outfits regularly and happens to be over a size 10 or 12. Despite all its frustrations (insert angry rant about the algorithm here), has been a godsend for plus size fashion lovers in this way. It is a place that has provided community and an inspiration to those who don’t often see bodies that look like theirs reflected in advertisements, magazines, or television. When I’m wondering what to buy, I go to the  plus size fashion community. That’s why I decided to ask a handful of plus size women what the best pieces of clothing they’ve purchased so far in 2019 have been. There were a few surprises, a few brands t...

Leandra Medine On The Importance Of Maintaining Her Personal Style

edition capsule collection for Mango , translating her own personal, eclectic style into an accessible and shoppable line. Modine's selection includes over 30 designs and accessories, ranging from convenient basic garments to elegant festive pieces.  “The inspiration is literally written on the floor,” Medline tells Refinery29 at the collaboration's launch party in Soho. “The prompt that I submitted to Mango was New Year’s Eve at home in a European ski town among recent college graduates from a New England university in the 1960s.” For Medline, that was the era of good stiff, tight jeans and cardigans. “I wanted to couple that with European flair and glamour. I’m really into sleep leisure and getting dressed up to stay home,” she explains. “A New Year’s Eve party at home is the most extravagant and decadent thing to dress for.” According to Medline, it's also an easy way for new parents to get in on the celebratory holiday action. We asked the fashion maven if her p...
